It is almost a year since I joined the Young Environmentalist course which started in March 2011, under the sponsorship of World Wildlife fund (WWF). The course intends to empower young Tanzanian Environmentalist scientist who are expected to be change agents in environmental conservation in their respective communities
The rationale of the course is to empower the youth in terms of participation in good governance and sustainable management of natural resources. Moreover, the youth are expected to empower CSOs’ capacity to fulfill their environmental conservation mandates in a more democratic and politically driven process

YOUNG ENVIRONMENTALIST TRAINEE TRAINING: SOURCE OF MY EXPERIENCE

I am a Tanzanian girl graduates at the University of Dar es Salaam taking B.A in Sociology and Philosophy. After graduating I joined Young Environmentalist Trainees (YETs) sponsored by WWF, Tanzania Country office. The program aims at training fresh Tanzanian graduates from different universities attached to different civil society organizations dealing with conservation of natural resources.

YOUNG ENVIRONMENTALIST TRAINEES (YETs) PROGRAM HAS SHAPENED MY ATTITUDE

I am a Tanzanian boy having graduated in BSc Environmental Sciences and Management at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in 2010. I joined Environmental Management and Economic Development Organisation (EMEDO) under the Young Environmental Trainees (YETs) program established by World Wildlife Fund for Nature, Tanzanian Office.

YET PROGRAM HAS POSITIVELY CHANGED MY LIFE

On 7th March 2011 I started to participate on Young Environmentalist trainees training which were conducted at MS – TCDC Usa – River Arusha. This program is funded by WWF. The program is of one year. It train youths to become change agents on Environmental conservation.

KABILA SECONDARY SCHOOL GOES GREEN ON WED

The efforts to increase Environmental Education and hence awareness of possible ways for conserving and greening our environment is still minimal among primary schools and secondary schools as compared to Universities.

Provision of Environmental Education to primary and secondary level has not yet been achieved in many developing countries particularly, Tanzania because of little number of experts, very little attention being given by the government, availability of teaching resources, poor written syllabus that do not incorporate environmental education and poor methodologies.

Honestly, we have remained so lonely after your departure our brother Octavian Mushi. Initially it started as a rumours that you will move out of the YET program of WWF-Tanzania programme office, and now it become the truth you’re not with us again.

THE STRUGGLE OF JANE ENDED WITH GOOD AGROFOREST.

Jane had a dream of going to school from her childhood. She planned that after completing her study she had to go town seek for job. The kind if job she needed to have was white color job. Luck enough she managed to receive her education which based on Agroforest. Jane did not rub her thoughts of having white color job. She decided to go to town looking for white color job.

“SAVE THE PEOPLE”, “SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT”

“Before I was introduced to SMECAO (Same and Mwanga Environmental Advisory Organization) fuel efficient stoves I was using traditional three-stone fire places for cooking. I wasted a lot of time fetching for firewood instead of engaging in other economic activities, I used to collect firewood four times per week. Also smoke inhalation due to the use of three-stone fire places inside the house was a problem to my health. After I was introduced to SMECAO fuel efficient stoves, I collect firewood only two times per week, the rest of the day I use for going to my farms and doing other productive activities” said Ms Zainabu Mmasa.

HADITHI

Palikuwa na kijiji cha Mtunguchoya ,kata ya Legezamwendo,tarafa ya Madongokuinama,jamii ya zeruzeru, palikuwa na mzee mmoja aitwae mzee Toboamambo.Mzee Toboamambo alikuwa na watoto wawili Tototundu na Chongo.Mzee Toboamambo alichukiwa sana pale kijijini kwao kutokana na tabia yake ya kutoa taarifa kwa uongozi wa kijiji na vyombo vya dora kwa kila ovu aliloliona pale kijijini.

Viongozi wa halmashauri ya kijiji walimpenda sana mzee huyu kutokana na ushirikiano wake,Alikuwa mpenda maendeleo asiyeogopa kupigania maendeleo ya kijiji chake.Katika kijiji kile palikuwa na msitu mkubwa ulijulikana kwa jina la Takalang’onyo.Msitu huu ulikuwa mkubwa mno wenye vyannzo vya maji na kila rasilimali inayo patikana katika misitu.Msitu ulikuwa wakijani na ulitunzwa vizuri kutokana na mahitaji ya kimila ya jamii ya zeruzeru.Waliutumia msitu huu kwa kufanya shughuli za kimila kamavile matambiko,ibada za jadi na kwa mahitaji ya nyumbani kama vile kuni,kuchimba dawa za asili na matunda.Katika msitu ule kulikuwa na chanzo cha maji kikubwa ambacho kilitoa maji kwa kata nzima ya Legezamwendo.
